If you need the perfect way to end your upcoming “Sunday Funday”, as the kids are calling it nowadays, this show right here is definitely it. Austin indie-pop outfit Tele Novella is coming to San Antonio for this awesome (and cheap!) show at Hi-Tones!
Tele Novella songs are solid with catchy melodies, 60s-inspired vocals and harmonies, and incredibly thoughtful and well-written lyrics. The band is fronted by Natalie Gordon of the band Agent Ribbons and a similar sound pervades the music in this new project (which is definitely a great thing). Jason Chronis and Matt Simon (formerly members of the band Voxtrot) and Sarah La Puerta round out the band.
Tele Novella formed early this year after Gordon’s first band, Agent Ribbons, broke up at the end of 2012 after six years of recording music and touring. However, Agent Ribbons was scheduled to play this year’s South By Southwest festival. Gordon asked her boyfriend Jason Chronis and members of his then-current band Belaire to back her up on stage and the rest is pretty much history! They spent several months recording and did a west coast tour in late spring— you can check out a video from a Sacramento show here!
The band is currently on a Texas tour to promote their new release, a vinyl 45” that includes the single “Don’t Be A Stranger”, which is already making the rounds on websites such as SPIN! Opening the show will be local indie favorites Flower Jesus Quintet (who recently released a cassette EP to a packed crowd at Limelight) and Seattle three-piece Week of Wonders (with a sound described as “tropical punk”…and I promise— that is incredibly accurate and oh so good).
