Southwest Workers Union (SWU) will be hosting a community Health Fair and back to school event the weekend of August 14th thru the 15th at 1416 E. Commerce. As a way to provide free services and supplies, the health fair will directly target health needs by providing one on one assistance with nurses, healers, and health professionals to educate the community on diabetes prevention, depression, physical fitness, healing, and meditation.

Friday, August 14 – 9am – 4pm
The Health Fair will have demos as well as on-site screenings. Some demos include dance workshops, healthy recipes, massage therapy, and domestic violence awareness to name a few. The medical screenings will be conducted by Methodist Healthcare Ministries and will be first come first serve. There will also be information tables to address healthy sugar consumption, fracking, depression, alcohol dependence prevention, and more. Free childcare & fun kid activities will be provided. The fair will be Friday, August 14th from 9-4pm.

Saturday, August 15 – 12pm – 4pm
Back to School Event will include a free give away of backpacks and school supplies. We will also have free hair cuts available to children. The free market is set up to provide free clothes and other materials to families. We are in need of school supplies and clothing donations. Contact us to coordinate drop off.

Event is free and open to the public, but is at a first come first serve basis while supplies last. These events are in partnership with Methodist Healthcare Ministries, Centro de Vida Empowerment Project with the Center for Healthcare Services, National Nurses United and Centro para las Semillas.
