Opening Thursday June 4, 6-9pm
Friday June 5, 6-9pm

Trained as a furniture maker/designer at VCU in Richmond, VA, artist Roberto Celis draws on his passion for chairs to create provocative new forms. In this exhibition you will not encounter chairs, but their image, impression, and reflection. A chair is similar to the human body in both form and structure, and can be thought of as an analogue for the individual; they seem inviting and we trust and use them without question; but this connection also has the potential to be subversive. Celis explores this ambiguity in the nature of the chair to question both social relationships and the social subject’s desire for individuation.
