A leader in the surrealist and avant-garde movements of the early 20th century, Joan Miró shared a friendship with fellow artist and member of the avant-garde, Marcel Duchamp. When asked about his notorious claim, “I want to assassinate painting,” Miró credited Dada and his admiration for Marcel Duchamp. Charles Palermo, Associate Professor of Art and Art History at College of William and Mary, discusses the late paintings of Miró and draws connections to his friend, supporter, and mentor Duchamp.

A program of the Louis A. and Frances B. Wagner Lecture Series, this lecture is offered in English with simultaneous Spanish translation. Space is limited. Fee (includes exhibition admission): McNay members free; nonmembers $10; educators and students with I.D $5. Scholarships available for Say Sí students. Reserve online or email education@mcnayart.org. Registration deadline: noon, October 14.
