Viento Callejero (Street Breeze), a musical journey formed on January 2013 composed by three talented musicians Gloria Estrada from Los Angeles, CA – Guitar, Federico Zuniga from San Jose, CA – Bass and Gabriel Villa from Colombia – Drums.
Together bring a fresh approach on urban tropical music stripped down to feature its rawest elements much like the cumbia which is played all over Latin America and VIENTO CALLEJERO represents this rhythm in Los Angeles, breaking down the rhythmic and melodic pulse of Cumbia Colombiana, Son Montuno, Merengue, Reggae, Dance Hall, and Rock to create a new sound that is infectious to the listeners ears, hips, and feet.
VIENTO CALLEJERO represents how the ‘Movimiento Cumbianbero’ continues to break ground through urban lenses of today’s street artists. They were initially influenced by the Big Band Cumbia sound of composers such as Colombian legend Lucho Bermudez.
VIENTO CALLEJERO ‘s objectives are to create a big band sound and produce música bailiable (danceable music) that can both push the boundaries what dance music should sound like and still make you want to move your hips.
VIENTO CALLEJERO’s first recording concepts represents the art of what the trio came up with and continues to develop with Classic Cumbias broken down to their bare elements as interpreted through the Viento Callejero pallet as Colombian ball room cumbias and remixed with a funky psychedelic twist for la calle.
VIENTO CALLEJERO likes to collaborate with different artists by welcoming talented guests singers that would keep it fun and fresh for every show including their ep that counts with guest musicians Martha Gonzalez (Quetzal), Eddika Organista (El HaruKuroi), and Leah Gallegos (Las Cafeteras) and Tony Sauza fron LA band Cuicani
Currently each band member actively nourishes its musical thirst with their personal musical projects while VIENTO CALLEJERO satiates that unique sound.
