EXHIBITION OPENINGS:
FORMED – A Survey of Ceramics by Dennis Smith & Colleagues
Russell Hill Rogers Galleries I & II
Sun, Nov | 22, 1-3 pm

Dennis Smith—former Chairman of the Ceramics Department at the Southwest School of Art—has been a part of the school’s history since he first began teaching here in 1976. FORMED is a pair of exhibitions that celebrates Smith’s long and esteemed career. In addition to a large body of Smith’s works, the Russell Hill Rogers Galleries I & II will play host to work by a number of his professional peers and colleagues.

Christa Blackwood | A Dot Red
(the ballad of irrelevant histories)
Ursuline Hall Gallery| Ursuline Campus
Sun, Nov | 22, 1-3 pm

In her series, a dot red, Christa Blackwood of Austin explores new perspectives on traditional genres and images found in landscape and portrait photography through the use of hand-pulled photogravures. Replacing the central “figure” of the compositions with a red dot, these traditional landscapes combine historical photographic techniques with a contemporary conceptual strategy that shifts the foci and enables the viewer to reconsider the traditional ways in which relationships to art works’ subjects are established.

Exhibitions run Nov. 22, 2015 – Jan. 24, 2016.
